CEN Advisory: Churches Beware of Slogans

CEN National Safety Security Officer Darryl Walker issued the following caution to U.S. churches:

“More recently, incidents of civil unrest have abated, but it still is a persistent issue in many of our communities. Pastors and leaders of churches need to be very mindful when it comes to the slogan “black lives matter” as the organization has very different dynamics.

There is nothing wrong with the slogan “black lives matter.” It's a true statement as ALL lives matter to God. Pastors and church leaders need to be careful in that the organization called Black Lives Matter is not what it seems. The New York Post has verified the leadership of the Black Lives Matter BLM organization to be Marxist. The functioning BLM leaders, those who are actually leading the organization, are also in question.

It is important church pastors and leaders have a good understanding of who and what their backing when they say they are supporting “black lives matter” with a sound plan in place to respond biblically to what their communities are facing. The biblical balance of responding to injustice but not causing further harm is a delicate balance but also an opportunity for the church to lead and not remain silent. “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?”

As a black pastor and law enforcement officer, I strongly recommend church Pastors and leaders don’t just get behind a slogan but actually walk out their concerns with the African Americans that may be in their church or in the local community by identifying real needs and addressing them in unity with other churches and believers based upon a sound biblical response. Do not be so quick to state a slogan because by design it shows support for the BLM organization which does not uphold the precepts of God’s word. Pastors need to recognize the organization BLM is causing more harm than good. They need to put messaging and plans in place to effectively lead their congregants in a God honoring manner.

The organization BLM is a front for antagonizer groups such as Antifa who want to cause chaos, and hurt communities, including the Church and destabilize this country. My wife and I have seen this first hand in Atlanta, Georgia. Again, the Church must realize and understand the organization BLM will begin to infiltrate the local church to cause harm and to destabilize the local community that the local church is seeking to reach with the Gospel.

If a church doesn't have a trained safety team in place, now is the time to get one in place. A trained safety team can help church Pastors and leaders monitor the local community, and watch those coming in for worship to make sure their intent is pure, and watch the property during the rest of the week when there are no church events happening. CEN has developed an online self-paced Safety and Security training on how a church can stand up a safety team that fits your risk/threats. Start your ReadyChurch training now!
