Let’s PRAY!

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

Father our Lord, we stand in awe of You, Creator of all things.  How we need Your constant instruction for life. Here Lord is our foundation that we must revere You; realizing You as the total source of all wisdom, knowledge and revelation. Truly there is none besides You, none compares with You the Ancient of Days. Father we grieve as we see our fellow humanity living without You as we have witnessed this past week in Uvalde Texas where so many young lives perished. Father those without you have no true wisdom to face these uncertain days and exist in peril. Renew the Hope of the Hopeless in this tragic situation. Help all who love and fear You to point those who are spiritually lost to You day by day. May they begin to live in the total submission and embrace of Your sovereignty.  In Jesus our Savior we ask. AMEN

8 URGENT Security Questions Parents Must Ask

Sadly, we have another school tragedy. It is long past due for parents to start asking questions about safety and security in our schools. So often, when incidents like the Uvalde, Texas active shooter massacre occur, the media and politicians focus on the same, mostly ineffective and political ‘remedies' to prevent future tragedies. After the incident is over and when the reporters have interviewed as many citizens as they can find, the cameras are packed up and the spotlight is no longer shining on the school involved and nothing significant happens. This needs to change and parents can have a significant impact.

CEN has compiled a list of questions parents can ask school principals, school superintendents, and their local school board members to get things moving in the right direction. Obviously, there is much room for improvement in the response to school emergencies. Parents can most certainly make an impact to jump-start this improvement. Waiting for the government to take care of this issue has proven to be ineffective.

Questions

  1. Does the district (or school) have an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)?

  2. Has the school conducted a comprehensive Needs Assessment of the school with Safety and Security experts?

  3. What part of the Emergency Operations Plan am I, as a parent, allowed to know about?

  4. How often does the entire staff review and study the EOP?

  5. Are newly hired staff specifically trained in the procedures for school emergencies? How are substitute teachers and substitute staff trained in the emergency procedures?

  6. What specific drills are required each year so that staff are practicing the procedures? Are the drills known in advance or are they surprise drills or both? (i.e. lockdown procedures, fire drills, tornado drills, off-site shelter procedures, etc.)

  7. How is communication handled before, during, and after the incident?

  8. How is communication handled within the building and within the entire district?

Is YOUR School SAFE Tonight?

AWARE

At this hour, CEN can confirm 19 children and two teachers as well as the suspected gunman were killed in a mass shooting incident at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The gunman has been identified as Salvador Ramos who acted alone, according to authorities. While details are still unfolding, it is very clear that the fast action of law enforcement and first responders on campus confronted with the Assailant acted swiftly and without delay to preserve life and further serious injury!

CEN calls upon our partners to pray for all of those who have been affected by this tragedy.

Our prayers for the children involved, their parents, and the teachers and administrative staff of the school will be constant for their physical health and their mental health as this story unfolds. We also grieve with the families who lost loved ones in this horrific incident. May Jesus be their comfort and strength.

Romans 8: 38-39 “For I am sure the neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” ESV

LORD our God Almighty, our Maker who loves us with an everlasting love, together we bless You for Your Word is so rich for every circumstance, every assurance, every instruction to lead, comfort, teach and bring us into knowledge of You and Your ways towards Your creation.  This passage is a pinnacle of reassurance, nourishing our belief and experience of You.  Even in the midst of chaos in the world, You stand unchanging working and reigning in the earth despite what circumstances arise.  No enemy, no pain, no thing in any form can remove Your love for us in and through Jesus the Christ—whose blood has overcome and paid the price for us all—once and for all.  AMEN

READY

While every parent, guardian, and other adult relatives of children in school wishes that the school was a safe place to learn and grow, schools remain threatened and vulnerable. We are ever mindful we live in a fallen world, and we must be ever vigilant for threats to our safety, security, and wellbeing.

Parents and teachers need to ensure children are educated in an age-appropriate fashion to the various threats that directly confront them. If your school does not have a plan on how to handle unwanted people on campus, or a system that encourages the children, in an age-appropriate way, to report on things they hear from their peers which may turn into violence, CEN partner CPPS provides the SafeSchools Tiered Approach which meets this urgent need.

THERE

You may not be able to go to Texas to pray, care and share Christ with these survivors, but CEN National Share Officer Dr Ed Smith in Texas will be providing chaplaincy during the response. He needs your support to be THERE with these families not just tomorrow but for many days and often years to come.

Let’s PRAY!

“O LORD how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God. But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” Psalms 3:1-3

Gracious merciful LORD God, we marvel at Your word, the constant instruction. Father clearly You know our times and enemy tactics. This passage speaks as we see lawless enemies doing violence and hearing unlawful, unethical actions week after week. Yet, we rejoice that You are never surprised, never worried or anxious about what to do on behalf of Your treasured creation when we cry out to You for help. Yes, when we are discouraged, there you lift our very heads by Your care, comfort and instruction. Jesus, Messiah, Advocate, in Your Name and access given by Your cross and resurrection, we come boldly.

Let’s PRAY!

“Jesus answered, The most important is, ‘Hear O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:29-31

GOD, our LORD, thank you for this great clarity and simple yet profound understanding of what You command: being jealous for our affection, adoration, awe – with everything within us. You are so worthy, more than we understand or even imagine Father.  And then, how to live with our fellow man? Love them, all of them, no boundaries, no criteria.  Just love!
