“The entire law is summed up in single command: Love your neighbor as yourself”

Galatians 5:14

Let’s PRAY together,

  • Lord, you have taught us to Love our neighbor as ourselves. It is only with your love flowing through our lives through the power of your Holy Spirit are we to attain the measure of this command.

  • Help us Lord, to pray for those who persecute us for honoring you as Sovereign King, Lord and Savior above all others.

  • Grant us your daily protection as we minister in your name with those who are hurting, confused, or broken. You have called us to bear witness to the least of these with your Hope and Love.

  • Lord, we are asking that you continue to give us the ‘news before the news’ and help us keep our eyes and ears open with situational awareness so that we are ‘biblically ready to respond’ with Your Hope all the days you have ordained for us.

  • Give us your strength to stand ready to pray, care and share your Hope with anyone, even those who despitefully use us, so you are Glorified that  they too may be partakers of your precious gift of eternal life and peace.

  • Lord, despite the evil we see all around us, help us not to grow weary in praying, caring and sharing Christ in our home, church, city and beyond for Your honor and Glory. Our lives are in your hands!

  • Father, our hearts long to see multitudes of Your children come into Your Kingdom as a direct result of our obedience as your faithful disciple. AMEN

CEN FAQs: Carry Key Data with You

You’re driving through the intersection with a green light and your car is slammed as another vehicle runs a red light. Or you may be sitting at home during a tornado watch and you hear the dreaded sound of a freight train so you immediately grab your family and dive for the basement but in an instant your house is lifted off the foundation. These and other emergency situations may leave you without immediate access to your critical personal data and information.

Keeping important backup information on a keychain flash drive will allow you to carry your crucial information where you go, and not rely on your backup storage in the cloud. Use a reminder on your calendar to update it often as some data may frequently change.

For example, if you’re in an emergency room after a car accident with a family member your data stick should contain the medical history of each family member providing immediate information to treating physicians. Trying to remember all meds and medical history under stress is not easy.

In a situation where your home is devastated by a tornado or other disaster your backup data stick should contain insurance information and other important contacts you will need to manage your personal affairs.

A good backup plan is to scan and make copies on your flash drive of key personal documents such as driver’s licenses, birth certificates, passports, home property deeds and vehicle registrations.

Flash drive keychains are available for under $20 and should be protected with a strong password. Download information, as appropriate, for each family member. Again, remember to note on your calendar and update your flash drive every three or six months so information does not become obsolete.

Keeping your important data is one small step at becoming a ReadyChristian. Explore more about being ready to survive and minister in and through disasters, whether at home, through your church or your Christian citywide networks by checking out the Christian Emergency Network

Be READY for any future emergencies, large or small. (I Peter 3:15)

CEN FAQs: Preventing Sewer Backups

Sewer backups are one of the most common and devastating events that can strike a home. Every year 500,000 homes experience sewer backups. The financial cost may be staggering and unless your insurance policy specifically covers a sewer backup you may find that you have very costly and incredibly overwhelming repairs to your home.

Some of these backups occur when extremely heavy rain overwhelms your municipal sewer system. Other times the origin of the backup may be closer to your house, like tree roots blocking the sewer line.

A simple and relatively inexpensive device called a check valve  will provide significant protection to your home from these events. A check valve is a simple device which only allows water and sewage to flow in one direction, out of your home. In the event of a major flood overwhelming a city’s sewer system which may cause backups the check valve will not allow water to come backwards into your home creating a messy, messy situation.

There are two basic types of check valves, the first is known as a flap check valve which permits sewage to escape but then the flap closes if the sewage is starting to back up. The advantage of this type of valve is they work 24/ 7 automatically but there is a possibility of some leakage through the valve.

The second type is known as a gate check valve which will be 100% effective, the downside is the valve requires a manual procedure to close off the sewer line.

Given most of us may not be able to react quickly enough the flap check valve is probably a good solution. Or, if you’re particularly concerned you can install both devices for maximum protection. Make sure that you use a competent licensed plumber to install these devices because you don’t want to learn the hard way the valves were installed improperly. These are also helpful to prevent septic tank backups, too.

Moses wrote, “So you shall not pollute the land in which you are…”

(Numbers 35:33)

Likewise, we need to be careful to protect our homes from being polluted and a check valve may be a very useful tool.

Stay informed about disasters, both large or small, and how you are able to best prepare by becoming a ReadyChristian.

CEN Advisory: Why are Churches "Soft Targets"?

Why are Churches considered “Soft Targets”

The Church today has vulnerabilities not unlike other places in which people congregate freely whether shopping malls, schools or sporting events - they all have common vulnerabilities such as revolving doors. However, the Church has its own set of unique vulnerabilities such as:

  1. Event vs Response Aspiration - The Church has aspired to be the biggest and most popular on-site, on-stage, on-schedule event driven place to go to versus being known for the most on-message, on-response, on-righteousness, with on-the-move people like Jesus.

  2. Part vs Whole Incident Activation - The Church has often activated on incidents based upon the media reaction, such as to an active shooter incident with prayer vigils only versus activating for a whole biblical response to the whole incident from start to finish where the Gospel is clearly presented and congregants all have a role in the response. (Neh 4:16-18)

  3. React vs Deter Application - The Church has been reactionary versus examining the threats, risks and vulnerabilities in advance on behalf of the whole church body with a plan to deter issues - the ReadyChurch takes a "whole team approach" so when anyone walks through their revolving doors they are perceived as “safe” doors.

  4. Not Here vs Prepare Attitude - The Church has long held they are in safe zones without a realistic assessment of our times and likely risks as well as having an understanding of their own capacity and plans based upon routine response practice.

  5. Turn vs Team Approach - The Church has become top down - one pastor with sole responsibility - versus the whole body preparing and responding to any crisis large or small as a part of a daily discipline. The turn Church often results in a missed opportunity for sharing the Gospel because they are unprepared with teams to respond.

  6. Inactive vs Active - The Church has become less participatory 20% do 80% work versus everyone having their part in a responsive functioning whole body, including in matters of emergency and security incidents where 80% of those in crisis will ask: "Where is God in this?"

  7. Soft vs Hard Assessment - The Church is often unaware of how businesses, government, schools, and other institutions have reversed being a "soft target" themselves as they have strengthened their own plans with deterrents making it appear less vulnerable to assaults.

  8. Follower vs Leader Assumption - The Church relies on the secular approach to responding to crisis not the biblical model which "puts on the full armor of God", prepares against that day realistically and responds having been well trained for any crisis large or small.

  9. Government vs Church Agreements - The Church has relied, in recent years, upon government response mainly to the physical needs of survivors and they rarely have agreements in place to respond to incidents with other churches in their community with whom they share a common faith, common leadership structure, common resources,

  10. Isolated vs Life Adjustments - The Church has become isolated from one another and often slow to make adjustments to the prevailing threats and risks. Joseph planned, Noah prepared, Esther stood strong, and many biblical role models have shown us how to Glorify Jesus in the very midst of crisis.

CEN has created a resource to help your church overcome these unique vulnerabilities. A biblical response is one where Christians are prepared spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically in any crisis. The Church is God's triage center and we are his hands and feet. ReadyChurch will help you put trained leadership teams in place, develop emergency and continuity of operations plans, and respond together with other churches much like Nehemiah in his day - we need to rebuild our walls!

CEN News

Three Mass Shootings in ONE WEEK How Do We Protect Ourselves?

All of us have been horrified with the three recent mass shootings committed over the last three weeks. Further, each location of violence was quite different, an office complex, a grocery store and three massage spas.

Because many of us may face an emergency with or without notice, is why Christian Emergency Network provides a FREE ReadyChristian membership as a key step to equip Christians about how to best respond during these incidents, whether large and small incidents.

Key benefits of the FREE ReadyChristian Membership includes the “When Lightning Strikes'' video to instruct you how to first avoid danger. Watch the trailer HERE

Finally, your FREE Membership will also provide invitations to Up to the Minute Incident Expert Conference Calls open ONLY to members of the Christian Emergency Network.

The Lord said, “But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.” (Matthew 24:43)

The unfortunate reality we face in the world is we don’t always know in advance when we will be faced with a violent situation either natural or man induced.

Take the first step of being ready to protect yourself, your family and others by becoming a ReadyChristian.
