As we approach the 20th Anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11, we reflect on the tragic loss of many lives, but also, on the blessings, our most loving Father weaves into such tragedy to remind us that He is with us in the darkness as well as in the light. Mary Marr, CEN Founder and President, says, “Let us remember the sacrifice of those who perished in this tragedy. It is a reminder to honor and thank our first responders who gave and give freely of their service. It is also a time to reflect on our own preparedness to be ready to give an answer to those needing Hope in the midst of tragedies of all kinds. Let us not be relaxed in our preparedness and vigilance as we approach 9/11 this year.”
The events of 9/11 led to the founding of the Christian Emergency Network to equip Christians to be ready spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically for any crisis large or small.

A Short CEN History
In October 2001, the original CEN pioneers committed to meet every month for four years to develop the basis of the CEN ministry. The following ministries shared in the vision for what is now the national Christian Emergency Network with their expertise: CDR Radio Network, Family Life Radio Network, ASSIST News Service, The Table Coalition (Mission America Coalition), The Salvation Army, Gospel Rescue Mission, National Prayer Committee, Cru (Campus Crusade), Luis Palau, Zondervan, and NeedHim.org. CEN has been honored and appointed to several advisory committees by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ready.gov and other federal and local response agencies. The Christian Emergency Network (CEN) was formed to better equip the body of Christ to respond biblically in emergencies of all kinds. CEN began with 10 national ministry leaders who were moved to unite together to reach our world for Christ when emergencies occur. These leaders recognized during a crisis 90% will ask the question "Where is God in this?" For four years these national leaders met once per month to explore how we could respond better together in crisis. They wanted to more effectively seize the moment when hurting people will either turn toward Him or reject Him completely - most often for a lifetime.

Dear Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for your grace and love and we thank you for always being by our side. Your presence is with us even when we are traveling in darkness. We can feel that your light is with us and that the darkness will never overcome the light. We do not fear the darkness because you are present. Your love surrounds us and gives us strength. Thank you does not seem adequate to convey our deep gratitude for we know that “Together We Will Stand” with you forevermore. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
