CEN Advisory: CEN Calls for URGENT Prayer for Hurricane Sally Disruption!

Just as Louisiana has been cleaning up after Hurricane Laura made landfall, now the National Hurricane Center has announced the Tropical storm Sally has now "rapidly strengthened" to a hurricane. The storm is located about 135 miles east-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River, moving west-northwest at 6 mph with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph, and landfall is expected tonight. Acuweather confirms it is unusual to have FIVE STORMS forming simultaneously in the Atlantic.

Added to the COVID19 pandemic, the civil unrest plaguing many cities, and the vast number of wildfires and smoke affecting over 17 states  nationwide compromising our health and safety we now have the potential human and material damage threatening the Gulf  once again from Hurricane Sally. Christians, take heart! This is an opportunity for God’s people to be aware, to be ready ourselves, and to be there helping others as 90% of those in crisis will ask: “Where is God in this?”

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them. The Lord watches over all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.”

Psalm 145:18-20

Please, PRAY: 

• The wind-shear would continue to impact the Sally storm, not allowing an eye wall to form, completely slowing the intensity of the storm.

CEN Advisory: ReadyLA and Inspiritus Bring Hope to Hurricane Laura Survivors

As we remember the heroes of 911 and the unity our nation faced in those days of uncertainty, we long for that same spirit to overcome the disunity and discord we are now seeing on our streets. As we pray, as Christians, that we would influence others not let others influence us (Jeremiah 15:19) let’s also pray for those being affected by Hurricane Laura in Lake Charles, LA and in the wildfires in California, and across the Pacific Northwest. While many cities are on fire with civil unrest, let’s continue to be thankful God has given Christian first responders the heart and strength to work together side by side in unity to meet the pressing needs in these disasters.

‘I’m remembering 9/11 and all those torn apart by loss of loved ones. I’m remembering all the troops that went to serve. But as we remember let’s also move powerfully forward as a nation. As we look to the Lord, we will pull together through the Covid-19 crisis and with Him we will pull through in unity.”

CEN Prayer: What does a CEN Prayer Leader do?

The CEN Prayer Leader is:

Responsible for developing prayer networks within the city and church while working with their local team Public Information Officer to develop specific, inspirational and accurate and prayer prompts during before, during and after crises.

The Prayer Leader assists the care and share leaders.  

They pray along with the CEN Prayer network using the CEN Prayer blogs to lead each meeting.

Many Prayer leaders develop a Prayer Blog for their teams locally and instruct the team on the Emergency Operations Plan regarding the prayer activity within the city or church team.

CEN Advisory: Urgent Call to PRAY-CARE-SHARE!

1. Be AWARE

As our nation grapples with the ongoing losses resulting from the COVID19 pandemic, months of economic uncertainty, historic wildfires, increasing civil unrest in our streets, we are now facing HurricaneLaura threatening to make landfall along the Gulf coastal states within hours. All throughout biblical history we have seen how God has used crises to turn us from our disobedience in humble surrender to Him. While we cannot miss seeing the increasing chaos at our doorstep, as Christians we are reminded, there is nothing that is impossible with Our Lord. He is faithful and will never leave us nor forsake those who believe and follow Him as Lord and Savior. How should Christians respond?

When we see some federal, state and local government or political leaders who have lost their moral compass it is disheartening as it drains the very life blood of our Constitutionally based democratic republic. Or, when we see religious leaders grapple with how to “reimagine the Church” for survival, when the truth is we have already been given the blueprint for The Church to thrive in Scripture it is even more disheartening. The blueprint modeled by the Early Church was tested through persecution on a level most Christians today have never seen. Is re-inventing or re-imagining the Church the answer when people are facing a pandemic, loss, civil unrest and now natural disasters?

We are not being called upon to “reinvent or re-imagine” the Church like a new marketing campaign, rather we are called to “be The Church!” This means we need to confess we have not been praying, caring and sharing Christ and turn from our misguided ways in being an “event driven” institution grappling for survival, and return to being faithful, ready holy disciples who are “response driven.” It means we must heed God’s many natural and man-made warnings and PRAY as if our lives and those we love depend upon it; CARE for those who need to “see and feel” the Gospel first hand; and SHARE the life giving Hope of Christ boldly yet sensitively for such a time as this. And, while we must not be silent or unresponsive when we see injustice, we must also pray and support first responders, law enforcement and those in authority to make godly decisions. As Christians, we too are the front lines of the spiritual battle facing our nation. Let’s heed the wake up call for His children to be aware, ready and there right in the midst of the crisis sharing the Hope of Christ!

• Pray Psalm 107:29 over Hurricane Marco to: be weakened by wind shear, make landfall in areas of less impact, and weakened by dry air receding before Laura comes ashore. “He hushed the storm to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea were still.” Psalm 107:29  

 

• Pray Luke 8:23-25 over the Hurricane Laura storm to: break up over land and enter the Gulf weakened, cross the path of Marco where water would be cooler and reduce impact, and experience wind shear and dry air to weaken the storm. “As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. Share

• Share with those who may have family and friends who are experiencing loss of loved ones to COVID19, loss of jobs, or who have been affected by the increasing civil unrest that Jesus is the only answer to the broken hearts, loss of supply, and able to provide true security. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

• Share with first responders you are praying for them and specifically ask how you may pray for them and their families by name. “But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1  

  

• Share a note inspired by the words of Isaiah 58:8 in a gift card to encourage someone going through the hardships of COVID19, job or business loss, or displacement due to civil unrest or in the storm areas to open the door to share the ‘Words of the Gospel.” “Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.” Isaiah 58:8

Founder and President, Christian Emergency Network 

Mary Marr, Founder and President of the Christian Emergency Network (CEN), established the CEN ministry after 911. Her background as a public school teacher, career education administrator and author of the State of Michigan Guidelines for Career Education, national radio broadcaster, and director of Detroit and Tucson Leadership Networks, in addition to her experience serving with the staff of a mega-church in Michigan helped lay the foundation for the national CEN ministry. 

Mary has led the charge for the Church to be ‘Aware' of the times; to be ‘Ready' spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically; and to be ‘There' as Christ followers with the Gospel in emergencies of all kinds. 

She initiated the CEN ministry with ten national ministries who understood the urgent need for a unified all hazards local Christian Response to crisis including readiness education, crisis communications, and human and material resource management in crisis both large and small. In her role as CEN Administrator, Mary works closely with an all-volunteer Christian team of national, state and local field and security advisors who provide readiness training and ministry direction during CEN national, state and local activations.

While serving in Michigan, she was approached to host a Christian radio program, Outreach Alert, produced by the Family Life Radio Network, which later became a nationally syndicated daily radio program on over 1,000 radio outlets for ten years. Mary continues to use her voice and passion for biblical readiness education to rally the Church nationwide through training, speaking, and as a frequent guest on national Christian radio networks during national incidents.

Mary is the author of Lighting the Way, ReadyChristian, ReadyChurch and ReadyCity. She authored the national report for Rutgers University titled: “The State of Christian Security - Global and Domestic” used by law enforcement officials worldwide. As a frequent contributor to the Christian publication ASSIST News Service, Mary has had many articles reach international distribution. 

She has been appointed for over two decades as a national faith advisor on the Department of Homeland Security Faith-Based Advisory Council, Foreign Fighter Task Force, Countering Violent Extremism Task Force, Biden Commission on Sandy Hook, and the FBI “Multi-Faith Roundtable Preventing Violence in Faith Communities.” Most recently, Mary served alongside four star U.S. General John Allen, former Commander of the Middle East theatre and NATO at the request of the Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary, Chad Wolf, on the “Preventing Targeted Violence Against Faith Communities” advisory committee.
